Blast Engineering

We can assess the impact of an explosion on an existing or new structure and recommend measures to protect it.
The current explosion protection requirements, safeguarding a building’s users from explosions makes up an increasingly vital part of this planning process today. As well as complying with the necessary explosion protection standards, planners also have to think about various financial and aesthetic factors. Thermal Analysis

Building Physics is a detailed understanding of how a building operates under actual conditions, where the movement of heat, air, moisture and light are designed into the user’s experience.

Symetrix aims to enhance projects throughout the design process, from assessing the feasibility of innovative concepts, through to testing and developing designs to predicting the performance of completed buildings and components. Façade Diagnostics

With expertise gained over many years and experience across multiple construction disciplines, Symetrix accurately diagnoses defects in existing façades for residential, commercial and public developments.
Our key objective is to analyse weatherproofing and structural inadequacies and recommend the most cost effective course of action to rectify the building to the standard that was expected at the time of its construction. This may involve recommendations to repair or replace existing claddings.

Expert Witness Services

In the event of a dispute over any type of façade or cladding, Symetrix delivers expert witness services for building owners, builders & contractors, body corporates, strata managers, insurance specialists and lawyers across New Zealand.
Utilising extensive experience and industry knowledge, we closely review architectural designs and specifications as well as the building processes to uncover underlying defects and advise on strategies for cost effective rectification.
This may involve researching the original specification for comparison against the project delivered in an effort to identify defects and failures in the construction process.
In an effort to achieve the most cost effective results, Symetrix is regularly appointed to review and advise on recommendations for rectification put forward by specialist façade contractors.

Product Compliance Assessments

As the construction industry continues to grow in New Zealand, more and more overseas products are finding their place in the local market. International suppliers looking to compete with local New Zealand manufacturers must prove they can provide economical, durable, and weathertight products that are compliant with New Zealand codes and standards. Using our extensive experience with domestic standards (AS/NZS) and international standards (e.g. ASTM, AAMA, BS-EN, etc.), Symetrix offers product assessments to provide suppliers with the engineering evaluations needed to bring in new building envelope components.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a method to optimize planning, execution and operation of a building, using its digital twin with all geometrically and functional information. All relevant information of the building is collected, modeled and recorded within its digital representation over the building’s lifetime. This data model can be also geometrically and functional visualized as a virtual model of the building. This allows the easy sharing, coordination and collaboration as well as the storing of all relevant information concerning this building with all parties involved. Thus it becomes possible to build up a reliable basis for decisions during planning, construction and operation. If used to its full extent, the data model can be further updated during the whole life-cycle. It thus becomes a useful tool for facility management tasks as well as for refurbishment and finally even deconstruction.
Symetrix provides consultancy services to architects, developers, and contractors. Our services span from the preparation of BIM execution plans (BEP) and data models at the early design stages to the preparation and coordination of detailed models to be used as basis for fabrication and erection. Bills of quantities and clash detection and control analyses can also be provided.
